Ship My Car Inc ("Ship My Car," "we," "us") is a licensed auto transport broker (MC-1184120, USDOT 3543663) based in Cerritos, California. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you visit shipmycarinc.com, request a quote, book a shipment or contact us, how we use and share it, and the choices and rights you have.
The short version: we collect what we need to quote and move your vehicle, we share it with the carrier who transports your vehicle and the service providers who help us run the business, and we do not sell your personal information.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Contact details: name, phone number, email address.
- Shipment details: pickup and delivery addresses or ZIP codes, dates, and contact people at either end.
- Vehicle details: year, make, model, condition (running or inoperable), and when needed for dispatch, the VIN, license plate and any modifications.
- Payment information: when you pay a deposit or balance. Card payments are handled by our payment processor; we do not store full card numbers.
- Communications: messages, emails, call notes and anything else you send us, including reviews and feedback.
Information collected automatically
When you use our website, we and our analytics and advertising partners may collect your IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, the site that referred you, approximate location derived from your IP address, and identifiers from ads you clicked. We collect this through cookies and similar technologies (see section 5).
Information from others
If a dealership, auction, relocation company or other business books a shipment on your behalf, they may give us your contact and vehicle details. Carriers we dispatch may also give us information about the pickup, delivery and condition of your vehicle.
2. How we use your information
- To prepare quotes and follow up on them.
- To book your shipment, find and dispatch a carrier, and coordinate pickup and delivery.
- To keep you updated about your shipment and answer your questions.
- To process payments, deposits and refunds.
- To handle damage claims and disputes.
- To understand how our website is used and improve it.
- To measure and improve our advertising.
- To prevent fraud, protect our business and customers, and comply with the law.
3. How we share your information
With carriers. As a broker, we arrange transport through independent, licensed motor carriers. The carrier assigned to your shipment receives what it needs to do the job: your name, phone number, pickup and delivery addresses and contacts, and vehicle details. Carriers use this information under their own responsibility to transport your vehicle.
With service providers. We use companies that help us run our business, such as quote and dispatch software, payment processors, phone, text and email services, website hosting, and analytics. They may use your information only to provide services to us.
With advertising and analytics partners. We use tools such as Google Analytics and Google Ads to understand our website traffic and measure our ads. These partners may collect information through cookies as described in section 5.
For legal reasons. We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena or other legal process, or to protect the rights, property or safety of Ship My Car, our customers or others.
Business transfers. If Ship My Car is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
We do not sell your personal information for money, and we do not sell or share personal information of anyone we know to be under 16.
4. Calls, texts and emails
When you request a quote or book a shipment, you agree that we may contact you by phone, text message and email about your quote and shipment, including dispatch, pickup and delivery updates. Calls and texts may be made using automated technology. Message and data rates may apply, and message frequency varies with your shipment.
You can opt out of text messages at any time by replying STOP, and of marketing emails by using the unsubscribe link or emailing us. Agreeing to receive marketing messages is not a condition of any purchase. We will still send messages needed to complete a shipment you have booked.
We do not share your mobile number with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
5. Cookies and analytics
Cookies are small files stored by your browser. We use them to keep our website working, to understand how visitors use it, and to measure our advertising. Some cookies are set by third parties such as Google.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, opt out of Google Analytics with Google's browser add-on, and manage ad personalization in your Google account's ad settings. Our website honors the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal as a request to opt out of the sharing of your information for targeted advertising.
6. How long we keep information
We keep your information for as long as needed to provide our services and for legitimate business and legal purposes, such as keeping shipping, payment and tax records, and handling claims. Quote requests that don't result in a booking are kept only as long as reasonably useful for follow-up and then deleted or anonymized.
7. How we protect information
We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards to protect your information. No system is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security, but we work to limit access to people and providers who need it.
8. Your California privacy rights
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by the CPRA) gives you the right to:
- Know what personal information we have collected about you, where it came from, why we collected it and who we share it with.
- Access a copy of your personal information.
- Correct inaccurate personal information.
- Delete your personal information, subject to legal exceptions (for example, records we must keep).
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for targeted advertising.
- Not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights.
In the past 12 months we have collected the categories of information described in section 1: identifiers (such as name, email, phone and IP address), commercial information (such as shipment and payment records), internet activity, approximate geolocation, and vehicle information. We collected them for the purposes in section 2 and disclosed them to the recipients in section 3.
To exercise your rights, email info@shipmycarinc.com or call 888-368-0139. We will verify your request by matching information you provide with information we have on file. You may use an authorized agent, who must show written permission from you. We will respond within the time required by law.
California's "Shine the Light" law lets California residents ask whether we have shared personal information with third parties for their direct marketing. We do not share personal information for that purpose.
9. Residents of other states
Depending on where you live, you may have similar rights to access, correct, delete or opt out. Contact us the same way and we will honor requests as required by your state's law. If we deny your request, you may appeal by replying to our decision.
10. Children
Our services are for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Links to other sites
Our website links to other sites, including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Google and the FMCSA. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies, not this one.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date at the top. If changes are significant, we will take reasonable steps to let you know.
